adding disk shelf to MD3000i

I am in the planning stages of adding a disk shelf to a MD3000i.  By adding the new shelf the cabling will obviously be reconfigured:

What impact does re-cabling/adding the new shelf have on host data access?

After the shelf is attached how is it configured into the existing RAID configuration?

Could someone point me to documentation for adding a disk shelf to an MD3000i.
