I will be sending you an email with the steps on how to get the serial shell connection so you can clear that error log.

Re: PV 124t with BackupExec - TAflag[12] Unsupported Format
Ok, if you did not get what you ordered. I would recommend getting in contact with your sales rep and they would be able to get that all resolved for you and get you what you paid for. If you need anything else please feel free to let me know.
Re: MD3000i appears to be only using 1 controller
Understood. Well, I can't thank you enough for the wealth of information! I will take this to the higher-ups and see which direction they would like to go.

Re: MD3220 will not bring up Service Interface
Is it possible to swap controllers between the MD3220 units, to see whether the issue you are getting follows the controller, or whether it stays where it is? That would at least tell you whether the controller is at fault, or whether the problem is in the MD3220 chassis somehow (i.e. the I/face where the controller plugs in).
Re: MD3200i SODReboot lockdownmd
Thank you, Kenneth. I have answered your email. Unfortunately, it doesn't work (as I described in the first post).
Re: MD3200i SODReboot lockdownmd
You mention that you are using HyperTerminal. I have ran into some issues when using that in the past. Can you install Putty and see if you get anything different when you try to access the serial shell?
Re: MD3200i SODReboot lockdownmd
Ok, I'try Putty today.
Re: ML6000 Tape drive bar code lable has come off
I will look into the details of that error message for you. Let me know how it goes when you glue the label back on.
Cache policy for performance optimization
Hi,
What could be the correct DAS configuration for 'Media Read Policy', 'Write Policy' and 'Disk Cache Policy' in order to maximize storage performance.
Thanks
Re: MD3220 will not bring up Service Interface
Yes, I've tested every module in a single array since I last posted. Two of the modules work, the other five give the same error. I tested them in another array to be safe and the modules all behave consistently.
I should probably test all the arrays with the good modules to be thorough, but there is clearly something wrong with modules. I just hope it's something I can set rather than bad hardware.
Re: MD3220 will not bring up Service Interface
I think you're going to have to get some assistance direct from Dell's engineering people. Sounds like either (a) the firmware in the controller(s) is incompatible with whatever is in the chassis (probably unlikely); or maybe (b) they got 'fried' in some kind of electrical event and maybe the firmware needs to be reloaded on them from scratch? I'm not an engineer, just a customer, so I'm usually stuck with a strategy of "plug it in; if it doesn't work, call Dell".
Re: MD3200i SODReboot lockdownmd
I've tried Putty yesterday, but nothing changed - after pressing S there is no password prompt, cursor just moves to the next line. But the lockdown problems is already solved by Dell technician over webex, so I don't need this anymore (probably, until next lockdown :-). Thank you for help.
Raid conntroller problem
Hi,
when creating a new virtual disk in Dell PowerVault-MD3620f this error:
Return code: Error 1008 - Could not communicate with the RAID controller module in slot 1 to complete this request
When creating a new virtual disk and in advance virtual disk parameters change Prefer Raid Controler module ownership to 0 then everything is ok but later Current owner change to Raid Controler Module in Slot 1 automatically, and all other LUN are there.
Еvento change Preferred Raid Controler in slot 0 after some time Current owner is Raid Controler module in slote 1
Performance for MD1200 vs local disks on PE R510
Hello,
I have a PowerEdge Server R510 connected to PowerVault MD1200 with SAS Cable 6Gb/s with PERC H800 controller (cache 1Gb NV).
On PE R510 I have 12x HD SAS Near Line 7200 rpm (connected to PERC H700 integrated), RAID 10.
On PV MD1200 I have 12x HD SAS Near Line 7200 rpm (connected to R510 with sas cable 6Gb/s with PERC H800 with 1 Gb cache NV), RAID 10.
On PE R510 I have a ESXi 5.1 U1 (installed on USB pendrive).
There are differences in performance between the two storage?
It's better local storage of server r510 or "outside" storage of MD1200?
Or the performance is equal?
Tnx in advance
Manuel
Re: PE-T610 with RD1000 Slow Performance
Hey Kenny,
I unticked "Compress this drive to save disk space" under drive properties.
I'm getting an average of 8 MB/s using Backup Exec with no compression. Just copying files to the device with Explorer I get an average of 16 MB/s. Obviously Backup Exec is beyond slower than it should be. And overall the drive is not performing as well as the USB 2.0 (20 MB/s) and NAS (18 MB/s) devices I've also tested.
I'm going to grab a different RD1000 cartridge and see if results vary. If you think of anything else let me know.
Thanks!
Moving current RAID drives *into* MD1000
Good day,
I have a poweredge 2900 that finally has died.
We would like to try and maintain the internal RAID5 (8x750GB) but the system board/chassis is dead.
On idea was to move the disks and the PERC adapter to an MD1000 that we have 8 slots available.
Any idea on if this would be feasible. I.E. physically move drives 1-8 to the MD1000 and move the PERC adapter into the host machine.
Looking at the logs, all was well with the drives and Perc prior to the crash.
Second option would be buy a used PE 2900 and move the drives & controller to that. But this would be as a last resort
Thanks for any insight.
Re: Moving current RAID drives *into* MD1000
A PERC from a 2900 will be a PERC5i or PERC6i. These only have internal ports. For an MD1000 you should get a PERC5E or PERC6E.
In theory this should be migrate-able, but be sure to have your last tested backup available just in case.
esxi path selection policy to md3200i
what path selection policy can i use to the md3200i? can i use round robin instead of mru? I see there is only 1 active controller at any one time. Also what is the ownership preferred path mean for the virtual disk?
Re: esxi path selection policy to md3200i
You can use round robin. Assuming you set up the unit correctly (4 subnets, single vmnic per subnet, etc) you can get up to 4Gbit/s in theoretical bandwidth (though it is hard to actually push more than 2Gbit/s short of massive data migrations, backups and benchmarks).
