If you have a solid backup plan or don't care too much about losing the data, that is an option.
Re: presenting MD1200 volume to vmware VM
Re: virtual disk not on preferred path
It is not the NIC that causes this. The dead NIC causes the array to have to fail the virtual disk over to the controller that that specific server does have a connection to and this is what brings up the message.
Just replace the bad NIC(port) and verify it reconnects (at least 1 connection to each raid controller) and the errors should stop (after 1 more time of moving the virtual disk back to the preferred raid controller).
Re: POWERVAULT MD1000 AND 12TH GENERATION SERVERS
It isn't a validated/tested (by Dell) combination, but will most likely work just fine.

Sorry for the formatting, I am not sure how to correct it.
Moving MD1000 to new server
I have a MD1000 w/ split config.
one volume is connected to a R710 PERC 6/e
The other is connected to a PE 2950 w/ PERC 6.
The 2950 will not boot, possible HW issue
Can I connect the second RAID connection to the 710 with out data loss? Import foriegn config?
Thanks
Re: Power Edge 1600SC Boot problem
Hi,
"Ctrl M allowed us to ID the bad drive".
For me, CTRL+M doesn't work since I disable alarm alert...
I teste with CTRL+, because I'm Frech, so azerty keyboard : same problem...
Error message on my PE1600SC :

Re: Replacing LTO4 to LTO drive in PowerVault TL2000 tape library and some more questions
You can put an LTO5 Tape Drive into the TL2000. Below is a link for the Support Matrix and assuming you have the Dell SAS 5 E Controller pg 7 shows the drives that are compatible to work in the TL2000.
ftp.dell.com/.../powervault-tl2000_Reference%20Guide9_en-us.pdf
When it comes to if it is compatible with the HP Procurve, we have no documentation that will tell us if it will work and how to connect it to the 3rd party device. Please let me know if you have any further questions.
Re: Cannot identify Library Path in Device Manager
That Ethernet port you are referring to in the back is not an iSCSI port. It is for the RMU or Remote Management Interface. You would plug an Ethernet cable from there into the normal network and use the front LCD panel to assign an IP address. Then you can access it from a system on the network and manage and configure the TL2000. When it comes to the TL2000 Tape Drives you need to make sure both of them are connected to a NON-RAID SAS Controller. You may also need to install the Tape Bus Enumerators if you haven't already. What OS are you working with?
Re: Cannot identify Library Path in Device Manager
Two main suggestions:
1. Make sure the library is in "random" mode, not "sequential" mode. You can verify this in the web interface of the unit, configure library, general.
2. Make sure both drives are plugged into the server. It sounds like only one drive is plugged in, and the drive that is not plugged in is probably the "control path" drive, which means its represents the medium changer to the OS. Once the other drive is plugged in, you should see the medium changer in device manager, though you may need to reboot the server first.
Add storage to MD3000
OK I have spent some time looking around for a guide on how to add disks to our SAN and can't really find anything definitive.
We currently have a 10 disk RAID 5 SAN connected to 2 Dell PE servers in a Windows failover cluster. We have 1 Disk group containing 2 virtual disks (1 for Cluster Quorum and one that contains virtual servers). We are currently nearly out of space and I have purchased 5 x new disks to add to the SAN. So I guess I have a few questions;
1. Can I physically install all disks at once? Can this be done live?
2. The Add Free Capacity (Physical Disks) command says "You can use this free capacity to create more virtual disks within the disk group" however I want to expand the virtaul disk that my VHD's are stored on. Can this be done? And can it be done live?
3. Does anyone have a guide? The Dell Users manual for the MD3000 isn't overly descriptive.
Re: Add storage to MD3000
The drives can be inserted into the array live with no problem. Just need to make sure you get the carrier with the drive. Before you add the disks to the array I advise that you make sure the driver and firmware are both completely up to date on the array. When you have added the disks to the array you can use MDSM (Modular Disk Storage Manager) to add the disks to the disk group. Recommend only adding a max of two at a time. Once all the drives are added to diskgroup you will then need to add the free space to the virtual disk. Then depending on what OS you are dealing with on the host you would need to use the proper utility to allow the OS to see that added space on the VD.
Re: Add storage to MD3000
Great info thanks for that. Can I add the free space to the virtual disk live?
Re: Moving MD1000 to new server
You shouldn't have an issue if the driver and firmware on both controller are at the same level. Do you have a backup of the data? As this is not a supported process and we cannot guarantee that it will go smooth.
Re: Add storage to MD3000
I would do it at a time when the array is not passing a lot of traffic as you will see a hit in the performance during this process. The less amount of work being done during this time the better. We like to recommend doing it during a down time.

Dell PowerVault 114x - Error Code 6, tape won't eject.
I can't seem to locate a definitive explanation in regards to this issue.
We use a Dell PowerVault 114x for our backup needs. The other day, I swapped the tape over, and once the tape was loaded, it started displaying the error code "6" on the display. When I press the manual eject, nothing happens.
Anyone able to shed any light on what's going on?
Re: Cache policy for performance optimization
But we need to increase performance and for power failure we have storage battary working. Using cache we increase our performace. So waht could be other setuos for 'Media Read Policy', 'Write Policy' and 'Disk Cache Policy'? thanks
Re: Dell PowerVault 114x - Error Code 6, tape won't eject.
Hello Eddie Smith,
What you will need to do is to power off the 114X & remove the SCSI cable. Then you will want to turn on the 114X & see if it ejects the tape out. If it doesn’t then you can hold in the eject button for 30 seconds & see if it removes the media. If media still won’t come out then if you PV114X is still under warranty then I would open a case so that the drive can be replaced.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.
How execute a command from the shell?
I have downloaded firmware for a single tape tape device PowerVault LTO-2.
The install instructions say to:
1. Read release info presented by executing an xxxx.BIN file command from the shell.
A. There were no .bin files available for download. Where do I get it?
B. What does it mean to 'execute from the shell'? How? Where?
Thanks...
