We have a TL2000 and we are getting to email alerts on every Friday (the full backup days).  During the week everything runs just fine. Below are the email alerts the we receive from the unit. they are in order that we received them in. By the way I have already searched this for the last week on the internet and have tried their solutions with no luck.  The other thing I would like is to have someone actually tell me what everything means in the emails.  Thanks ahead of time. Now here are the emails.

RD1000 Issue

I have a RD1000 that I've been using with Backup Exec on a Windows 2008 server for several years.  I lost one of my disks and purchased a new disk.  However, each time I insert this NEW disk, it prompts me to format it.  It will backup successfully, but each week I use it, I have to format it.  Any idea as to why that would be?

Hi

I am looking for drivers for the above system but seem to go round in circles on the usual dell support website.

OMSA is telling me that the minimum driver I require is 2.24.00.32 but I cannot seem to find this

I would be very grateful if anyone had any ideas

The OS is 64 bit

Thanks Adrian

Conterller Firmware update

I have been trying to update the firmware on a dual controller MD3200.  The  "Powervault MD Storage Software" will not perform the update.

Current Firmware Version is: 08.20.05.60

I have loaded 3 versions of the management software, the current version and going back 2 older versions thinking that the version of firmware was just too old to seen by the software.  Each version has said that the status is "Not Upgradable"

It says: "

  •              The RAID controller module firmware cannot be upgraded because the firmware version is no longer supported. Consult the device documentation on how to perform a manual upgrade           "

I can't find a manual process to follow.

Please, if anyone has dome this before I would love to know what to do.

Thanks

Server doesn't see second magazine of TL2000

This has me stumped.

New linux server, new LSI MPT fusion SCSI card (parallel SCSI),  hooked up to a TL2000.

I run "mtx -f /dev/sg4 status"  and it only shows me the left magazine.

The right magzine is full of tapes too though, and the TL2000 itself sees it, when I look at the inventory through the RMU.   But not the server.  Somehow, that information is not getting across the SCSI bus.

That's just weird, to me..  it's not like it's a different LUN even or anything.
Any ideas where the problem could actually lay?

Windows Storage Server 2008r2 Backup not working on Dell NX3100

1. Is it possible to keep multiple backup copies when backing up to network drive?

I realize that Windows Server Backup cannot keep multiple backup copies (unless backing up to local drive instead of remote network drive). This defeat the purpose of having a backup because when the local drive failed, the backup failed with it, isn't it?

This can still be overcome by manually rename the backup folder by adding the backup date so that it will create a new backup folder.

2. Is it possible to do a FULL backup of selected folders?

I realize that Windows Server Backup cannot do full backup if you didn't want to backup the whole server (there is also a 2TB limits if you backup the whole server). It will always perform partial backup with selected folder. Is there also a file limits if you just want to backup some shared folders?

First i am unable to connect through MD manager.  Do both management ports need to be configured and connected?  Enclosure shows up in 6g adapter but thats it.

Second, one encloure has a controller on lockdown.  Using Putty and unable to use clear command--or not sure when to use it.  After break and S, nothing happens.

Unable to connect through MD Manager.  Enclosure shows up in 6G HBA but that is all.  Do both management ports need to be configured and connected?  Connecting to R710.

Also, how does one clear the controller lockdown using Putty.  After break and S nothing happens.

PE R710/ PERC H800/ MD 1200. 2 RAID 10s use the same drives

Hello Everyone, I have this weird situation. I have a PowerEdge R710 server with two PERC H800 cards, the PERC H800 cards are connected to a PowerVault MD1200. Here is how everything is setup

First PERC H800 Connector 0 is connected to one of the PowerVault MD1200 EMMs which cosists 6x4TB SAS drives

Second PERC H800 Connector 1 is connected to the other of the PowerVault MD1200 EMMs which also cosists 6x4TB SAS drives

I used the Open Manage server administrator to setup RAID 10 with intelligent mirroring on both the cards. When choosing the drives I chose all the drives. After the RAIDs were initialized I realized that virtual drives showed a total capacity of 24 TB on both cards. Further investigation revealed that the same drives were assigned to both the RAIDs. I have a total of 48 TB available to me on both RAID 10s, the total capacity of the drives is also 48 TB. Now I understand that RAID 10 halves the total capacity of the drives, then how is that I have the total capacity available to me (24 TB on each RAID 10) and how is it that both RAIDs are using the same drive? is that a benefit of the intelligent mirroring feature, or is it just a glitch. I will appreciate your help on this. Thanks!

Hopefully quick MD1000 question.

Have a poweredge server connected to an MD1000 via a perc 5/e.  This is no longer a production server, but it has some old data that they like to query occasionally.  It seems that the battery on the perc died and no one noticed, and then there was a power outage.  When the server was restarted, the virtual disks under connector 0 were no longer there.  Looking at the array, all disks but one showed up as foreign.  I sort of jumped the gun and cleared the foreign so now all the disks show up as ready, but upon further reading I don't think that's the end of the world.

Is there a relatively painless way to get this virtual disk back online? We'd like to do so, but are not willing to move heaven and earth to that end?  Any instructions or documentation on how to recover this specifically would be appreciated.  I've looked into it already but not sure I've found this particular situation with detailed instructions.

Trying to get 12-4TB disks to update their firmware attached to an R610, and it simply is not seeing them.  Is this systematic?  I can see the controller and drives just fine during POST, just not once i get up to the update utility.

MD3000i Raid Controllers down (iSCSI ports reset loop) after power outage

Hello,

Unfortunately we have experienced a power failure this week and our UPS shut down before the power came back. After that our MD3000i RAID controllers went down and it seems they are stuck in a loop. The management ports are working, however the iSCSI ports are resetting themselves regularly:

Earlier this year we experienced a very similar problem with one of our RAID controllers (also after a power failure) and Dell replaced the controller in warranty. Unfortunately our warranty expired soon after that, so currently this doesn't seem to be an option.

Is there any way to recover these RAID controllers from this iSCSI resetting loop?

Our environment:    Dell R710 servers (running ESX) connected to MD3000i storage which has an MD1000 enclosure attached to it.

We have the support bundle files ready, so we could send it if it helps to solve this issue.

Thank you in advance!

MD3000i controller troubles

$

Hi,

It seems that my MD3000i continues having controller problems. I'm receiving tons of critical errors via email notification, but every time I go into MDSM - the status is optimal. The error messages I receive refer (as far as I understand) to both controllers (enclosure 0, slot 0 and enclosure 0, slot  1). Does that mean that both controllers are having issues or does it mean that one controller keeps going down (rebooting) and falling back on the other controller? The errors are:

-Optimal wide port becomes degraded (event error code 1706)

-Degraded wide port becomes failed (1707)

I would consider replacing a controller if I can confirm which of the two is failing. Is there are way to determine which of the two controllers is having trouble?

This MD3000i has reached its EOL, so we don't have support anymore...

Thank you, Alex.
