What is exactly the 4-core processor used in Dell NX3230?

I would like to know what is exactly the 4-core Xeon processor used in Dell NX3230. Is this single or dual processor? Is this E5 or E7? Is this v2 or v3? If this is single CPU, is this Xeon E5-2609 v3, or Dell SC4020's E3-1265L v2, 2.50GHz, 4 cores?

Thank you.

MD3400 VLAN

Good morning,

I have a MD3400 storage unit and need to tag the Management NIC's with a VLAN ID.  We operate multiple VLAN's that are routed through the firewall and the hosts (R620 servers) are on a Management VLAN.  Currently, if I plug the NIC's into a switch the get assigned an IP Address from a different VLAN.

I initially connected the MD3400 directly to one of the hosts and assigned the host NIC a static IP in the 192.168.129.0/24 to install the software. If I plug the MD3400 into the switch it get's assigned IP's in the 192.168.161.0/24 and the management scope is 192.168.192.0/24.  Changing the Ethernet settings from the AMW gives an error stating that there are duplicate IP addresses.

Is it possible to tag the management NIC's with a VLAN ID?

Thanks

MD3000 - Replaced SAS controller in host

We have an MD3000 connected to two hosts that are in an active/passive Windows 2008 cluster environment.

We replaced a failed SAS controller in one of the hosts which was causing the host to BSOD and reboot, and now need to tell the MD3000 about the new HBA address/ports (or so we're led to believe) in order to get rid of disk errors.

Prior to swapping out the SAS controller there were no disk errors, and putting it back in gets rid of them.

Where and how do we do this within the MD3000 software? We suspect the "Configure Host (manually)" section but can't find anything to confirm this. Also, what do we do about any references to the old SAS card?

TL2000 Random Mode vs Sequential Mode

We just bought the TL2000.

In reading thru the user guide (page 118-119), it defines "random mode" and "sequential mode". My question is...What is the difference?

I ask because I am unable to discern when one would be used over another.  Here are a couple questions I walked away with after reading the definitions.

1. If I select 'Sequential mode' and Loop, it states that it allows endless backup operations without user interaction.  Well, this sounds enticing. However, a caveat states that only 1 drive will be utilized.  So,  just to clarify, does that mean the 2nd drive would effectively become useless?

2. In reading different forum questions on separate issues, i have seen the recommendation to turn off Sequential and turn on Random mode.  What are the pros and cons of using one over another?

3. In what scenario would an organization want to choose Random over Sequential or vica versa.

Thanks!

PCIe Ultra-320 SCSI Card for T320

Hi,

I have a new PowerEdge T320 and for the moment (until it outgrows it) I need to connect it to a Powervault  122T LOT-2 tape library. Can anyone suggest/recommend a reasonably good Ultra-160 or Ultra-320 SCSI card that will fit a T320 to connect the two?

Possible options seem to be an HP SC11Xe, Adaptec 29320LPE and the LSI LSI20320IE. Although outwardly the appear to be the same card (probably ARE!).....

Any suggestions anyone has would be appreciated.

The reason for using the Powervault 122T tape library is that we have it already, and it is connected to an existing server (SBS2003) which the T320 (Windows 2K12R2) is replacing. Until I can gauge backup requirements I'd rather continue using it until I can decide on what (bigger capacity tape/disk/cloud) will replace it.

MD3000i after replacing failed disc hot spare does not write back to the replaced disc

Hi All,

Having a strange issue on a SAS MD3000i enclosure. Had a failed disc on here. Data transitioned over to the hot spare. I have now replaced the disc, and added an additional hot spare. MDSM states that the " storage arrays status is being fixed" but there are no copy back operations in progress. This disc was replaced over 48hrs ago. When I view the logical disc it still shows the hot spare in use but it also shows the replaced disc sort of in the array.   When I click on the physical discs section in MDSM it reflects that the drive has been replaced but is not optimal. Wondering if the drive firmware could be the culprit however, the drive set as the hot spare is the same firmware and seemed to respond without issue. Any assistance would be appreciated. I have gathered and attached a support bundle and the enclosure profile.

Make and model: Dell MD 3000i

Enclosure firmware: 06.50.32.60

Thanks,

Jeremy

MD3000i POWER SUPPLY

I have a  MD3000i Powervault. I am getting an error Power Supply/Cooling Fan Module - No Power Input. Looking from the rear. The left hand supply has only one green light (switch on) The right hand supply has two green lights. When power is removed from the right hand supply, the SAN dies, so there is no redundancy. I have replaced the left hand supply however the same fault exists. Any ideas welcome.

Is there a way to flash a Compellent SC8000 BIOS to make it an Dell Poweredge R720 BIOS?

Is there a way to flash a Compellent SC8000 BIOS to make it an Dell Poweredge R720 BIOS?

Similar to how you can flash a NX3000 BIOS to make it an R710.

I've tried flashing the BIOS several different ways including the DOS update and adding /forcetype, /brandname, and /forceit.

Any help would be appreciated.

TL 4000 SAS connection issues.

Brand New TL 4000 unit. 4 drives, LTO6.  Win 2012 Server (not R2). latest DPM 2012.

SAS card is a Perc 810. Two of course.

Library is configured as one library.  All drives powered on, one control path set on drive 1.  Latest drivers installed from dell website, installed install_nonexclusive as the readme says to do for DPM.  Says successful install.

Can not get the media changer to show up in Device Manager.  As a result, the library is not showing up in DPM.  All I see is stand alone drives

The manual is extremely vague on some very important simple things.  Like what is actually drive 1? the bottom drive I assume.  Next, while it shows how to connect one drive to the host card....I don't see anything about how to do 4.  So your left wondering if you need to daisy chain the 4 drives or ... ???

Anyways, Mr. google tells me 4 drives need two SAS cards. Ok, done. Still no go.

So for troubleshooting purposes, I removed all but one drive, and sure enough, still no media changer, and dpm still doesn't see library. I gave up and put our old HP back in.

What am I doing wrong?

Dell MD3600i virtual disk not on preferred path

Hi,

There is this error message of virtual disk not on preferred path for one of the virtual disk. I did manually change the owner to the preferred one and the warning message goes away. However, the warning message appear again after some time and the virtual disk is again not with the preferred owner. I know this might not be critical but this warning message is annoying. Any good method to eliminate this warning message for good?

WOL with MD1200?

$

I have a Dell Precision rack mount workstation/server with a PowerVault MD1200 attached directly to it.  This particular item is used for video conversion which I do not use all the time.  All the computers on our network I have the ability to wake on lan (WOL) including this one, but the problem is the MD1200.  Is there a way to turn on and off the MD1200 when a WOL call is made to the Precision computer?  Since it uses the external drives as part of it's encoding process, would like to be able to turn it on remotely when I need it (usually 20 miles away when this happens), including the enclosure and turn it off when I'm done.  I'm guessing the simple answer is no, however is there any third party hardware that can be put in line to make this viable?

Thanks.

Dell Backup and Recovery

I hope someone can help me. I have been trying to setup and use DBR. My problem is this, the original backup was to an external USB Drive.  This drive was very quickly filled to capacity. I then selected another external drive, within 2 days this drive is 90% filled. Next I purchased 20Gb of cloud storage it filled in 3 days. Then added an additional 20Gb of cloud storage and this is now filled and my backup has been suspended. At the same time files were  continued to be backed up to the external drive. Now that drive is full.  Can someone tell me how the files are being backed up? Is a new copy of my files being created each time a backup is performed? If this is the case I will never have enough space. Shouldn't be that each backup will overwrite the old files with the new. Is there some setting that I have not set correctly?

Thanks for any advise that you could offer,

Greetings ,

I have a new VRTX that we are just setting up . It has 2 blades , dual Perc 8  controllers and 12 - 2.5" SAS drives . I am going to configure a cluster using the 2 blades , 4 drives in RAID10 for the CSV and 2 drives in RAID1 for the QUORUM . Is there any way to leverage the dual PERC8's to replicate the CSV to another RAID Array for High Availability ?

Same Tape Drive and driver (Dell Powervault RD 1000)

Both OS Detect the Tape drive in device manager

But on one server it is detected as a removable storage device.

I have uninstalled/reinstalled the driver and rebooted the server. It is still detected as a removable storage and BAckup Exec cannot detect is an a tape drive.

ANy input would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance

PERC 6/e - Retag VD with original cleared foreign config drive

$

I have a Dell R710 server with a PowerVault 1000 RAID array that is down. THe server has a two SAS drive mirror RAID so the OS (WIndows Server 2008) is bootable and accessible. The array is a 15 drive RAID 5 with no hot spares (all drives used in RAID set).

I had drive 14 go bad two days ago and replaced it with a new HD and the controller started doing the rebuild of the drive. I let that run overnight expecting to have the drive rebuilt and the RAID back in good order the next morning. However things didn't go as well as I was expecting. The next morning I came in to find that drive 10 was flashing amber and had failed as well.

When I looked at the situation within the Openmanage Server Administrator it was unapparent whether or not drive 14 had completed its rebuild - but the fact that it was not online leads me to believe that it did not complete before drive 10 failed.

I pulled drive 10 and reseated it within the enclosure, powered down and rebooted. Upon coming back up drive 10 seemed to come back to life - both lights above the drive are now green and where it used to say "Failed" under the PD Mgmt it now said Ready. I also received the "Foreign Configuration" alert and from what I was able to surmise from another post on this forum, I chose to clear the foreign configuration for that drive and was under the assumption that the configuration within the controller was the one that I wanted to stick with. However, now the drive shows up under the Physical Disk section as "Ready" as opposed to "Failed" - but it is still showing up as missing within the Virtual Disk page. The same situation took place with drive 14 (the original failed disk that was rebuilding) - after removing the drive and re seating in the enclosure it came up with the foreign configuration and I cleared it as well.

So at this point my hope is that drive 10 is working again - and it has enough life left in it to get the virtual disk back online so that I can (hopefully) access/move some important data on the drive and possibly restart the rebuilding of drive 14.

I found a post on this forum that had similarities to my situation and the DEll representative mentions a process called "a retag" where You delete the VD configuration on the controller and then recreate the array with out initializing. He mentions that It won't affect the data, UNLESS we retag the array to a different configuration than it was prior.

He mentions: Run a Dset report in the OS prior to doing anything and then let me see the report to get the correct raid configuration on the virtual disk. Then we can retag it accurately.

For your reference here is a link to that forum post: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/servers/f/906/t/19597921

Does this seem to be a viable option for my situation?

Thanks!

PowerVault TL2000 library - tape drive appearing twice in Device Manager

$

Just installed a new TL2000 on a Dell R630 server. Using 6Gbps SAS HBA. Windows 2008 R2. In Device Manager I can see two "unknown medium changer" and two tape drives (IBM ULT3580-HH4). However in reality there is only one library and one drive.

Windows has allocated a different SCSI id to each "drive" and "changer". Does anyone know why Windows is detecting two devices when there is only one?
