MD 1200 updating firmware to EMM

Hi

i have in my customer site:

NX 3200 who is connected with h810 to one md1200,

recently all storage in the md got used so the customer bought another md,

connected by sas cabels.

one of the EMM is shwoing amber light , i understand that the firmware must be leveld in both EMM,

can you specify how it can be done in the easiest way?

can it be done thru the nx3200 windows stoarge server?

can the data on nx3200 and the first md 1200 be erased when upgrading the second md 1200? my customer is worried about losing all his data...

can you send the link where the upgraded firmware should be downloaded and how the process can work?

thx

Powervault 132t Invalid drive

So I have had to change the lto2 drive in this unit due to a mechanical failure and I am nw getting invalid drive on the display.  On the RMU is says there is no drive present.

Although on device manager on the server (server 2012) it sees both the medium changer and the ibm drive that's in the pv unit.  From what I can see its the firmware on the drive that needs updated but I cant find the fw for this LTO2 drive and the procedure for doing this.  I have updated the library FW through the RMU to latest.

Anyone got the link for the FW and how to flash it to the drive?

Thanks in advance

PowerVault TL2000 library - tape drive appearing twice in Device Manager

$

Just installed a new TL2000 on a Dell R630 server. Using 6Gbps SAS HBA. Windows 2008 R2. In Device Manager I can see two "unknown medium changer" and two tape drives (IBM ULT3580-HH4). However in reality there is only one library and one drive.

Windows has allocated a different SCSI id to each "drive" and "changer". Does anyone know why Windows is detecting two devices when there is only one?

Manage PowerVault non dell server?

OK no comments I need Dell equipment if there are alternatives here.  I have some MD1200 PowerVaults and they were connected to a Dell Preceision R5500 rack unit.  The Precision system failed and not warrantied.  I want to plug the Perc 800 controller in a standard no name system and continue running as this is a file server so can't afford to be down.  Will this work OK?  Also being non Dell on Windows 2012 R2 can I run OpenManage or anything and see the drives and volumes and manage them?  Or use something else?

Thanks

Marvell NVRAM Cache card from DR6000

$

Hello,

I recently picked up two decommissioned DR6000 units and identified the presence of the Marvell NVRAM cache card inside the unit.  The units had no operating system, so to me, they are only R720XD chassis's.

From my little understanding, the cache cards are OEM only with only Linux drivers available.

My question is, are they useful to a true DR6000 owner, in that multiple cache cards can be installed and used?  If not, and assuming there are no Windows drivers available, then I'll put them through the recycler.

Cheers.

SAN FC with SATA 7.200 hard disks

Hi all,

I'm looking for a SAN with:

- 2 Fiber Channel controllers (16 Gbps)

-  36 TB disk space

- Sata II hard disks -7200 rpm

I'm unable to find a storage like this on dell configurator tool, or in dell storage website.

Does anybody know a model where I  can mix FC controllers and SATA Hard disks?

Many thanks in advance.

Best regards

Gabriele

Unexpected sense

Hello,

On one of our Dell PowerEdge 2950 + md1000 we receive strange notifications in server's log file (CentOS 6 messages log):

Server Administrator: Storage Service EventID: 2095  Unexpected sense. SCSI sense data: Sense key:  5 Sense code: 35 Sense qualifier:  1:  Enclosure 0:0 Controller 1, Connector 0

Same we see in openmanage's alertlog:

Severity : Ok
ID : 2095
Category : Storage Service
Description : Unexpected sense. SCSI sense data: Sense key: 5 Sense code: 35 Sense qualifier: 1: Enclosure 0:0 Controller 1, Connector 0

Should we worry about this? We have latest PERC 6/E Adapter firmware (6.3.3.0002).

Powervault MD3420 support for vSphere 6.0 Esxi 6.0 ?

$

Hello

We ordered 4 brandnew R730 servers with 12Gbps SAS cards and a MD3420 SAN. The ESXi hosts came preinstalled with ESXi version 6.

Now after we installed 40 VMs on this, we see that after a reboot, the HBA does not detect the luns. Only after plugging out the HBA cables and reversing them, it detects them. Also in the HBA path selection I cannot see any options like "round robin" etc.

When I check the VMware site it seems that all DELL powervault MD32xx/MD34xx SANs DO support ESXI 6.0, except for the MD3420! I checked this previously and start to doubt myself / or whether the compatbility on the website has changed.

http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/detail.php?deviceCategory=san&productid=36288&deviceCategory=san&details=1&partner=23&arrayTypes=4&isSVA=0&page=1&display_interval=10&sortColumn=Partner&sortOrder=Asc

Is there any driver or update to be expected withing the first weeks, or should I start downgrading all my VMs and esxi hosts to version 5.5? This is really a shortcoming I think especially since the package came with 6.0 preinstalled.

Best Regards,

Joris

MD3000 Failed Battery Module on both RAID controllers

I have a MD3000 where both RAID controllers show a failed battery.

I have replaced both batteries and just today replaced one of  the RAID controllers with no change.

Both are up to date with Firmware and are functioning fine other than the battery issue.

Can the battery issue come from an issue with the enclosure?  Not sure what else to try.

Error message on PowerVault TL2000

I have PowerVault tape library TL2000 with the error message of "Robotic Failure", which caused the backup job failure.  I reboot the PowerVault TL2000, the backup job works fine, but the error message is still there with yellow mark for attention (please see the attached picture).  Since the device is end of life cycle, I can't get technical support for troubleshooting.

I really appreciate that anyone can help me on this issue.

Thanks,

Ray

Problem with TL2000

Hello

we have two tl2000 with an lto4 tape and we use with symantec backup exec 2010r3 . One of that can't write on the tape more than 570 gb ,far from the full 745 gb . This happens for all the 23 cartdrige of the magazines. The other TL2000 works perfectly (same backup server, same interface, same job) . When this happens the backup exec job fail with a generic " an hardware error occur" and on the tape display there is the yello light of hardware error. Already tried to clean the tape, change all the magazine and look inside to check if there's any labels. Elevator seems ok. I think that is an hardware tape error.

MD3000 Email alerts "Event Message: Data/consistency mismatch on virtual disk"

$

Hello,

We have been receiving email alerts from one of our units as above, however the MDSM is showing everything as being optimal.

The email points to an MD1000 shelf which contains the disk group  (2 shelves are attached to the MD3000)

Having spoken to DELL support, I was advised this is possibly a "meta data" error rather than an actual data corruption.  I was also advised the solution would probably be to backup the data, erase the entire disk group, and then recreate it, then moving the data back.

If this is the recommended step, is this all done via the GUI? Are there any more steps to ensure the meta data is cleared? (I saw another post mentioning creating a RAID0 array first to clear the meta?)

I would be very grateful of any suggestions, or perhaps somebody taking a look at the support bundle?

Thanks in advance,

Paul

Dear!!!, thank you very much for your response, I can discover the array using the dell utility software, but i doesn't accept the password and configuration, further, port 0(192.168.130.101) of controller0 cannot be accessed, even though I connected it directly to my laptop. Dear kindly tell me the remedy to this problem,

Need help deciphering error message generated by PowerVault TL4000

$

Hello,

We have been getting the following alerts from our system but we have not been able to find documentation to help us figure out what it means. The error is:

Attention : Drive Warn or Crit Tape Alert flag

Event Code: 0x84 - tape alert

Element number: 0x02, 2

Drive number: 0x02, 2

Tape Alert Flag: 0x09, 9

This message was generated automatically from
IBM 3573-TL

Obviously it looks like we have a bad tape somewhere, and it looks like it's on the second drive, but what do the element number and tape alert flag fields signify? If someone has a link to a document explaining these errors that would be great. Thanks in advance,

Duane
