Dell DR4100 Upgrade

Been struggling to upgrade Dr4100.

Started yesterday with GUI upgrade which failed. tried to upgrade from cli, failed even with multiple reboots.

Tried again today with gui in maintenance mode and still failed. cli upgrade failed.

i re-downloaded DR-UM-3.2.0194.0.tar and went through process again with the same results.

Anyone come across this issue before? DR4100 was unfortunately highly marketed to the client in terms of the dedupe ratios to be expected.

In terms of setup, using 1x 10GbE interface connected dell N4032F switch. The device has 2x 10G interfaces and 4x 1G, all bonded I believe.

Hopefully someone out there has come across this upgrade issue before.

2- TL2000 unit, 2 - SAS Card. How do we combine this to one server using BE2012

We currently have 2 units of TL2000.  Each TL2000 is install on a different server.  We would like to connect both of this unit into one server so we can speed up the process and centralize it.  Is that a possibility?

I have a existing  MD3200i  disk storage and the iSCSI is not functioning properly. Currently we are using it and has backup data and we do not want to lose it while iSCSI setup. Please help. Thanks.

PowerEdge T410 LT0-3-060 Internal Tape Drive

I'm having trouble with Backup Exec not recognizing the hardware (IBM ULTR SCSI).  Backup Exec showed the IBM as busy, however, could not resolve so I removed it from the device pool.  Now, backup Exec can't find it.  It appears in device manager and says its functioning properly?  Ideas?  Thanks.

Changing MD3000 Manager Host

We have a PowerVault MD3000 in our production environment connected to two servers (one is the management server, the other is just a client that can access and use it). The SAS card that the MD3000 connects to the server with will also be moving to the other server.

Are there any specific steps that need to be done to switch the management software from one server to another, or can I just install the management software on the other computer and it will automatically work?

Rapid CIFS on Client Server

Can i check if the Rapid CIFS plugin can be installed on a Hyper-V Windows Core Server (without GUI) to do a client backup to the DR6000?

MD3000 - degraded physical disk channel error

Hi folks,

I've inherited responsibility for an MD3000. I'm not very familiar with it, it's the first PowerVault I've dealt with. I noticed an orange light on it, so started digging through MDSM. In the Recovery Guru section, it lists some errors and I wanted to know where to start with troubleshooting them.

First one is Degraded Physical Disk Channel and it occurs twice. I've also got a Failed Battery Module error (I have a better idea as to what this error means...) and the last error is Individual Physical Disk - Degraded Path.

I'm also getting prompted to synchronize RAID controller module clocks, but when I hit the synchronize button it fails with an error 1009 and tells me a management connection to all RAID controller modules must be accessible to complete this operation. I don't have ethernet connections to the PowerVault, so that means this is in-band management, right? And it then tells me that I need to verify all physical paths to the storage array are connected and operational... which presumably means that the actual errors are preventing me from updating this.

Any pointers would be good - this box has sat unloved for quite some time and I'd really like to avoid it dying a horrible death.

PowerEdge 2900 Direct Attached Storage Array

I have inherited and repurposed as an FTP server, a PowerEdge 2900 with Windows 2003 Server.

It originally had 6x 73Gig SAS drives installed.

0 & 1 were mirrored as the C: drive.

2, 3, 4 & 5 were in a 3:1 array as the D: drive.

I have replaced the drives in array D: with 6x 2.0TB drives that are in a 5:1 array.

This gives me the original C: drive with the OS on it and a ~9TB array for my FTP site.

This server has an Adaptec SCSI 39320A-Ultra 320 SCSI card installed in it.

I am looking for a 2ru or 3ru Direct Attached Storage Array that I can connect to the PowerEdge 2900.

Does DELL make a compatible product???

I have been unable to find a device that has the same connector as the SCSI 39320A card.

Adding 10Gbe Nic to DR4100

We have a DR4100 with the factory installed 4*1Gb nics.  We have added a 2 port 10Gbe nic, but I cannot find any instructions on how to configure it.  I would like to the 10Gbe to be the primary interface, and don't need to use the 1Gb nics afterwards.

On the GUI, under the health tab, the 10Gbe nics show up, but not in the networking tab.  

What needs to be done to use the faster interfaces?

MD3600f - Setup Documentation?

I have a PowerEdge MD3600f, that was purchased by another group. I believe the SA gave up attempting to configure and it's been sitting in a box, for a year or more. I'd like to take advantage of it, but have limited knowledge of SAN storage. Specifically, Dell. Could you point me in the direction of a ground up build, for this array? I'm looking for any documentation, that includes options of configurations, to all initial configurations and installation. Any assistance, is greatly appreciated. 

The plan is to utilize it strictly for storage. No VM's, etc.

TL4000 Service Password for out of warrenty.

How do I get the service password for an out of warranty TL4000?

Basicly I bought it on the used market dirt cheap but its spiting out this error:

"HE: sled position not found, unable to locate magazine slot positions
Code: 9B 3B"

Its close to 7 years outside the original warranty so I am fairly sure I cannot get it extended cheap.  So is there a way I can get into the service password?  I know that in that telnet prompt you can move the picker manually and read the sensors.  I figure if I can narrow it down to the ir sensor or a motor problem I can replace that bit rather than replacing a $200 picker.

Baring that, is there a way to clear all the calibration data and have it realign everything?

Hello,

I read "Dell™ PowerVault™ MD Series Support Matrix" pdf:

11  Supported physical disk drives
Note: Only the physical disk drives with a Dell part number listed in Table 12 are
supported.

Table 12 Supported physical disk drive models

but I do not see in the table physical disk drives with a Dell part number!

I see Vendor and vendor Model.

I can buy any disk from the table, and flash Dell firmware?

Adding drives to a MD1420

  I'm trying to add drives to a MD1420.  Dell has indicated that while I can obtain the drives, the caddies (Part # 8FKXC) are no longer available. The suggested replacement part appeared to fit I think a 3.5 inch drive for a M1400 rather than the 2.5 inch drive the MD1420 is structured for.  Can someone tell me the 8FKXC replacement part number?

PowerVault 114T + R720

I have a PE R720 with a PoweVault 114T which is connected to the server via a LSI Logic 20320IE SCSI card.  I am running Windows Server 2012 R2 (64bit).  I cannot find drivers for the LSI card anywhere.  Can someone please assist me in getting this working?

MD3000i controller troubles (continued)

Hi,

This question is related to the following thread:

I purchased a replacement controller and replaced the controller in slot 0 that was giving us trouble. After two days of running on the new controller I started receiving error messages again. Below are the errors. Can anyone advise on what might be causing this now that the controller was replaced? I can submit the latest support bundle if that will help.

modular disk storage manager - SMTP port

Is there any way to specify and SMTP port to configure email alerts in the Modular Disk Storage Manager?  We have an internal open relay, but we prefer not to use the default port 25 and instead use a different port.  We have a lot of systems and devices using the relay on the non-standard port, and MDSM is the only software that does not seem to have a port setting.
